How to deal with an INTJ coworker
The short answer
INTJ coworkers respond best to: clear written communication, respect for their focus time, direct disagreement (not passive-aggression), and pre-thought solutions. They lose patience fast with people who waste their time or refuse to make decisions.
Don't drop by their desk
INTJs hate unscheduled social interruption. If you have something to discuss, send a calendar invite or a written message. 'Got a sec?' is one of the most draining sentences they hear daily. Their reply will be cold because you've interrupted deep work, not because they dislike you.
Bring options, not problems
If you need an INTJ's input, come with 2-3 options and your recommendation. They'll engage with that. Coming with an open-ended problem feels lazy to them — they expect you to do the first cut of thinking yourself.
Disagree directly
INTJs respect people who push back with logic. They lose respect fast for people who agree to their face and then complain behind their back. If you think they're wrong, say so directly and bring the evidence. They'll often update their view if you're right.
Don't take cold feedback personally
INTJ feedback can land harsher than they intend. They're commenting on the work, not the person. If they say 'this section is unclear,' they're not implying you're stupid — they're flagging a specific problem to fix. Argue the substance, not the tone.
